Who We Are . . . .

The photo above was taken of the dealership owned by Scott Satterlund's grandfather, William G. Talbot, in Cumberland, Wisconsin in October 1948. This was taken at their grand opening. The right photo includes Mr. Talbot (second from the right) surrounded by IHC executives. His store was one of the very first IHC "Base of Operations" prototype buildings in the USA as designed by Industrial architect and artist, Raymond Loewy.

The Story . . . .

Binder Books was started in early 1991 by Scott Satterlund, a passionate International Harvester collector since childhood.  Scott grew up around International Tractors and Trucks since his grandfather, William G. Talbot, was a dealer in Cumberland, Wisconsin.  The idea began in  the fall of 1990, after purchasing a collection of manuals at an auction in Marsing, Idaho. Scott initially planned to sell the original manuals for which he had duplicates.  He found there was more demand for these publications than he thought, so he looked into reprinting these titles under license. Scott negotiated the rights from International/Navistar and Case/IH to reproduce the library of technical material produced by International Harvester. After purchasing a digital copier and other equipment, he  began reprinting these manuals in his free time (evenings and weekends).

In 1996 after being laid off from her banking job, Cyndi, who was pregnant with their daughter, Jessalyn, started working at Binder Books full time. Two years later, after expanding the business from a bedroom and part of their garage, to the entire garage and storage units, they decided it was time to "move out".  Binder Books began leasing space in the Industrial Park on Durham Road in Tigard in January 2000.  They hired some employees and began to expand their product line. One year later they moved again, across the parking lot to another unit, twice the size of the original unit.  Most weekends during the summers were spent at Antique Tractor Shows in Oregon, California, and Washington.

As their reputation for excellent products and superior service spread, the Satterlund’s continued to expand their product line to include Tractor Toys, Collectibles Items, Restoration Books, Decals, Truck Parts, etc.

Scott Satterlund passed away after a short illness in June of 2003, but his vision of preserving the history and products of a great American company continues under the leadership of his wife, Cyndi.  Binder Books currently offers technical and historical documents on thousands of pieces of IH equipment.

Cyndi has since married another IH Truck Enthusiast, Dan Haider.  Dan, along with his two sons, are now helping Cyndi and Jessalyn with Tractor Shows and many other aspects of the business.

We thank all of our customers who have been with us over the years.  We appreciate your support and loyalty and hope to continue to serve you in the future.

Binder Books looks forward to saving one more tractor, one more truck, and, especially, serving you!
